"Rose is one of three girls at a San Jose shelter with their mom. The family has been homeless on-and-off for several years because of a stormy relationship between mom and dad. Rose was looking forward to her fresh start on the first day of 1st grade. She was even more excited after receiving her “cool” new shoes and gift card. When she got home she told her little sister everything she had done that day and how great and fun it was. Now starting school is all Rose's younger sister can talk about!
